3.Sept[embe]r: I was up before 4a.m. and many
of the troops were under arms. No attack however
nor was it much expected on the first named
day of three. I rode to the brow of the plateau
and all seemed very quiet. Dined with Sir
William Eyre. A sharp sortie at 10 o'clock, and a
Good many men killed and wounded. Capt[ai]n
Pechell the only old Officer of the 11th surviving who
came out from England was killed.
